Welcome to Colborne Central Public School

Colborne Central Public School is a warm, inviting school of 179 students from kindergarten to grade 8.  It is located at the corner of School Road and Lucknow Line; it is close to Benmiller, Carlow and Goderich.  All of our students are bused into the school from surrounding farms, lakefront properties, and nearby subdivisions.
Colborne Central Public School’s motto is “Cultivating the Future” and this is a task we take seriously.  Our motto is deeply imbedded within our School Improvement Plan, which is reflective of the Avon Maitland District’s goals, specifically:

1. to improve student achievement in all areas of student learning, with a focus on literacy and numeracy
2. to develop positive citizenship qualities in our students

Our educational emphasis is on non-fiction writing.  We are excited to be members of a net-worked learning community where we plan for, evaluate, share, and discuss best practices for improving student learning with staffs from 5 other schools.  This is a modern, motivating, and exciting project.  We have a particular interest in capturing the writing potential of boys in order to reduce the achievement gap, which exists in our school (and is a trend across the province) between girls and boys.

Too, we have made character education part of our daily school life.  Lessons on character are taught incidentally and directly.  We adopt the board’s 10 character attributes through monthly, non-competitive, multi-aged, “house colour” groupings, where a character attribute is discussed and role-played.  As well, teachers have solidly included the 10 character attributes in their planning. 

Our hope is that you come and enjoy some time on your new playground with your family!  You can walk or run the track; use our new equipment; have a picnic, bring a basketball and shoot a few hoops, whatever you enjoy.

Our students, staff, parents, School Council, Student Parliament, volunteers and community members work together to “cultivate the future” and to make Colborne Public School a great place to be.
